Some CYCCers have asked recently about longer distance charity rides that can also act as a personal challenge. Last year Kurt, Tristan and I took part in the inaugural Pedal for the J's bike ride on a beautifully warm but from memory rather breezy day. The route, which almost exclusively uses quiet minor roads and travels through some of the most rural and charming countryside and villages that Essex has to offer, has been extended this year to offer a 50 mile 'lap', as well as 15 and 35 mile alternatives. Other riders are sociable and invariably have a friendly word as you pass by each other.
Those of us who have old roadbikes hidden away in sheds, time to dust them off perhaps? For those who haven't, thirty five miles on a mountainbike is well within the scope of most of CYCCers with a few training rides under their belts.
