MSG Warm- Up Round 2: Danbury

Well done to all CCYCers who took part in this weeks MTB racing.

Juveniles

The line-up was slightly changed this week with Joe absent on a family weekend away and Alex Salmon stepping in for his first race of the year. In the end it was Alex who kept CYCC on the podium with an impressive 3rd place. Harvey and Jordan looked set to lock horns after a close first lap but after putting in an extremely quick second lap Jordan was beset by mechanical problems which saw him slip back into sixth place behind Harvey. Jamie and Alex Steward persevered to complete the race in eighth and ninth respectively.

U12s

Ollie Ford set out his intentions when a flying start left him lying just behind eventual winner and BMX champion Josh Peters as they entered the downhill section for the first time. However, Josh's experience allowed him to extend his lead with Ollie holding on tightly to his second place until the attrition of the climb back to the start/finish began to take its toll and he was passed by Troy Wingar. Though he retook second briefly after charging up the hill he eventually crossed the line third, an excellent performance against much more experienced (and perhaps slightly older) competitors.

Others

Fern Beighton valiantly battled her way through the water filled ditches and up the hill again and again to complete the race as the only U12 girl.  Dark horse Paul Steward missed a podium place by just 5 seconds in the 40min vets after posting some highly respectable lap times. Ian Salmon finished mid table in the 40min vets after chivalrously stopping to help another racer with get their chain back on.
