Afan Trip

It was clear during our spring and summer meests that our fittest and most technically able riders needed a challenge.  The answer was found in a trip to Afan in South Wales to ride the W2 route at the end of the school holidays.  This route consists of 44km of mostly technical singletrack, long, steep, technical climbs and a couple of the most demanding descents to be found in the UK, more details on the link below:

The ride starts with a 6km single track climb to the wind farm on top of the hill, before traversing across the hill and descending to the Afan trail centre for lunch.  Everyone knew what they were in for after some well deserved food, it was credit to all those present that they chose to climb back to the top of the hill rather than take the optional short cut.  That determination was paid back with two fantastic descents, firstly the energy section with boardwalks and drops and then, due to a diversion in place, the infamous Jetlag descent from the Skyline route.  Everyone  made it back safely to the Glyncorrwg campsite tired but with a great sense of satisfaction  at what had been achived.
